Gathering for Profit in Albion Online: A Beginner's Guide
How to make silver gathering in Albion Online — zones and risk, specialising, Focus, and turning raw resources into the most silver per hour.
Gathering is the purest way to make silver in Albion Online: no upfront capital, and everything you pull out of the ground is profit. It's also where most new players start. Here's how to do it efficiently rather than just wandering and swinging a pickaxe.
The six resources
Every gatherable falls into one of six lines — wood, ore, hide, fiber, stone and fish. Each has its own gathering tool and its own skill tree, and each feeds a refining line (wood → planks, ore → metal bars, and so on). Prices for the raw resources and their refined forms move independently, so what's most profitable to gather shifts over time — check live resource prices before you commit a session.
Zones and risk
Where you gather decides both your rate and your risk:
- Blue and yellow zones — safe (or near-safe). Lower resource tiers, steady income, low stress. The best place to start.
- Red and black zones — higher tiers and enchanted resources worth far more, but you can be attacked and lose your gear and your entire haul.
The higher-tier resources in dangerous zones are worth multiples of safe-zone ones, which is exactly why they're dangerous. Only carry what you can afford to lose, and bank often.
Specialise, don't dabble
Each resource has a specialisation tree that increases your yield and lets you gather higher tiers efficiently. Spreading across all six keeps you mediocre at everything. Pick one or two lines, gather them in focused sessions, and your silver-per-hour climbs as your spec does. Gathering gear (and its enchantment level) matters too — better tools mean more resources per node and more weight capacity.
Gather, then refine?
Raw resources sell fine, but refining them yourself often captures more value — especially with the city bonus and Focus. If you enjoy gathering, learning to refine your own haul is a natural next step; see how refining return rate works and the refining calculator.
Getting the most silver per hour
- Follow the prices. Gather the resource that's actually valuable right now, not out of habit — the item pages show live prices and history.
- Mind the weight. A mount with cargo capacity turns a trip's worth of nodes into one profitable haul.
- Use Focus where it counts. If you refine what you gather, Focus roughly doubles your return rate — see the Focus guide.
